In 2024, the Pharmacy in Practice Conference in Edinburgh brought together a tremendous selection of research poster submissions. These posters, submitted from across the profession, showcased the incredible depth and quality of practice within the pharmacy profession.

Last year’s first-prize winner, Laura Karim, wowed our judge with her outstanding poster titled:
“Exploring the Implementation of Pharmacist Independent Prescribing into Community Pharmacy Practice Using Normalization Process Theory.”
Last year’s judge, the highly esteemed Emeritus Professor Christine Bond, praised Laura’s research for its innovation, clarity, and impact.
This year, we are excited to announce that Laura Karim will take on the role of judge for the 2025 Research Poster Competition! Her expertise and passion for advancing pharmacy practice make her the perfect choice to select this year’s winning submission.

Last year’s competition highlighted some highly innovative and novel projects, including:
- 2nd Place: Fiona Ingram’s study on antipsychotic physical health monitoring in general practice.
- Joint 3rd Place: Alice Deasy’s work on IV-to-oral metronidazole switching in surgical wards and Solafa MW. Noorsaeed’s exploration of community pharmacy services in the Gulf region.
Call for Posters: Share Your Work on the National Stage
Now is your chance if you’re passionate about pharmacy research and want to showcase your findings. Contributions from any walk of pharmacy life are welcomed. Like Laura above, you may be forging a career in academia or want to share some innovative pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy in Practice Research Poster Competition is open to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and the broader healthcare professional network.
Posters will be evaluated based on three key criteria:
- Research Rigour: How well-founded and methodologically sound is the study?
- Visual Appeal: Is the poster visually engaging and easy to navigate?
- Novelty: Does the research bring fresh ideas, innovative solutions, or unique perspectives?
Whether your work focuses on community pharmacy, general practice, hospital settings, global pharmacy practices, or even non-patient-facing activity, we want to hear from you!
Laura has kindly agreed to judge the competition, and her choice will be reviewed by a group of leading pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in Scotland based on the criteria above.
